We’ve all had it happen before. We check our mail and get so excited to receive a package. But that joy can quickly diminish when we realize that the package was damaged in transit. It is one of the most frustrating things about sending and receiving packages. There are four steps that we recommend you follow when sending packages so that they arrive in good condition.
- The Box – Choosing the right box to ship in is the first and most important step to mailing a well packaged item. The box should fit the item with room to spare but not too much room that your item rattles around. The box should be in good condition without any rips, tears, or damage. Try to choose a box made of thicker cardboard and not one that is thin and flimsy.
- Packing Materials – Be sure to wrap the item you are placing in the shipping box with packing materials like bubble wrap, peanuts, or even newspaper. The item you are shipping should not touch the box it is being shipped in. This helps to protect your item being shipped in the case that your box is damaged, dropped, or tossed.
- Seal It – Make sure to use packing tape to secure the box closed. Do not use other tape types like scotch or masking tape. Don’t forget to tape the bottom of the box too.
- Label It – Your shipping box should be well marked with the return address and shipping address. Without this important information your package will not make it to its designated destination.
