In our experience, many people don’t know much about notary services, what they are for, or when and why they may be called for in a given situation. In this article, we hope to shed some light on the matter by going over three situations in which you will definitely need notary services and explaining the reasons why.

Do You Need Notary Services? 3 Situations in Which the Answer is Yes

  • Buying or Selling a Car. One situation in which you will need notary services is when buying or selling a car. The title and registration documents of the vehicle need to be officially notarized in order to reduce the risk of fraudulent activity.
  • Filing an Affidavit. Another situation in which notary services are necessary is when filing an affidavit. An affidavit is a legal document that acts as a written version of swearing under oath, and they can be used in a variety of circumstances–to give a few examples, a lawyer may need an affidavit in order to move forward with court actions, or an insurer may require one as part of certain claims. If you ever find yourself in need of this type of document, you can turn to our team to get it notarized properly.
  • Designating an Agent in a Power of Attorney. A third situation in which you’ll need a notary to verify your documents is when appointing an agent in a power of attorney (or being appointed as one for someone else). Essentially, power of attorney documents give someone the legal power to make decisions on your behalf in the event that you become incapacitated–for example, if you should become injured and unresponsive, your agent would be able to make decisions regarding your medical care for you. Clearly, these documents carry a lot of weight and importance, so it’s important to have them witnessed and notarized in order to make them binding.
